This Sunday the Church celebrates the Feast of Pentecost.
We recall the day that the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles in the upper room. The Holy Spirit was able to transform the apostles and formed them into the Church. The Holy Spirit empowered Peter, who denied our Lord three times, to go forth and to speak the Good News of Jesus Christ to all gathered in Jerusalem. Though the people in Jerusalem were from all over the world and spoke different languages, they all heard Peter in their native tongue. The Holy Spirit united the languages of all humanity. We all are called to allow the Holy Spirit to change and transform us into powerful witnesses of our Lord Jesus Christ and God’s great love for us.
This Monday is Memorial Day. While it is traditionally thought of as the beginning of the summer season, it is a day when we remember and give thanks to God for the lives of those men and women who sacrificed their lives for our nation. Let us all pause in the midst of our activities this day and say a prayer for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
Next Saturday, May 30, Bishop Lucia will ordain Deacon Cornelius Deep a priest for the Diocese of Syracuse at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse. Let us keep Deacon Cornelius in our thoughts and prayers as he prepares for this special day. Let us also continue to ask the Lord to continue to call young men from our parish to the priesthood of Jesus Christ. Fr. Cornelius will be with us on
the weekend of June 6/7 to celebrate weekend Masses with
us.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
