As we journey into the third week of Lent, Jesus tells us the parable of the fig tree. He uses this parable to teach us that God never gives up on us. Too many times in our lives we become discouraged because of our mistakes, failures and sins. We sometimes feel that it is easier to let these things define who we are.

Jesus tells us that God never gives up on us and gives us chances to change in our lives. Lent is an excellent opportunity to grow and deepen in our relationship with God. One way for us to do this is to experience God’s mercy and forgiveness in the Sacrament of confession. It might be good this week to take some time to reflect upon those areas of our lives that we need to change. Let us prepare for the Sacrament of confession remembering that our God is a merciful and loving God who never gives up on us.
